Tristan Lathey
Tristan is a Hastings based ceramicist, whose sculptures sits somewhere between pop art and folk art. Over time Tristan has developed his own unique style of slab-built sculpture which is both playful and angular.
His work takes inspiration from classic English figurines with the use of stands and depiction of scenes, but inspiration has also come from Mexican folk art and the natural world (with a hint of surrealism). There is sometimes an element of peril to his work which is a contrast to the friendly characters involved. All pieces are built from paper porcelain, mid temp fired with a mix of commercial glazes, reactive glazes and underglazes.
