Mark is originally from Western Australia but migrated to the UK in 2008. Originally working as an illustrator with over 20 years’ experience he decided on his move to the UK to embrace his ambition to create fine art.
Painting full time from his studio in Leeds, Mark has developed a reputation and following for his original oil paintings which feature local and international landscapes and city scapes, capturing the essence of these places in his distinct bold colour palette. Mark describes this as ‘exaggerating or characterising colour, manipulating perspective slightly & pushing shape & form to arrive at balanced place, where the image created has not only captured the physical qualities of the scene, but more importantly, the feeling of the occasion.’
Self taught, Mark is not locked into approaching his work with any particular procedure or direction in mind. Although he uses source material such as photography, he prefers to rely on memory and imagination when painting so that he can recreate the scene from a place of feeling rather than photographic precision. Adopting a more organic approach and design to the paintings allows the completed piece to retain a freshness & feeling of spontaneity.
