Andy's background is in architecture. He has a degree from Edinburgh University and was a member of the RIBA for 25 years. Throughout his career as an architect he also designed and made furniture. After graduating he worked in London on social housing, including, for a while, on the Alexandra Road scheme by Neave Brown. Since those days his architectural work has been mainly in private housing, both for developers and private clients.
Andy lives in North Yorkshire and now spends most of his time designing and making things in wood. Recently this has included making small kinetic sculptures in the form of hanging mobiles constructed from finely cut hardwoods. The individual parts are made from very thin components and are therefore light in weight and responsive to air movement.
