Jackie Summerfield
Jackie Summerfield first discovered her love for 3D materials during her foundation years (1974-6), which led to a degree in glass and ceramics. However, she soon realised that she preferred the immediacy, texture and feel of working in clay. Her sculptures have been showcased across the UK and she has also been involved with Open Houses in Sussex and participated in the British Craft Trade Fair. After securing a prize for sculpture from Pure Arts Group, Battle, Jackie was invited to take part in an exclusive group show at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
Jackie’s interests lie in human and animal forms, which she approaches in a realistic yet stylised way. The techniques she applies range from traditional handbuilding and slabbing, to moulding, press and slip casting. These slip-cast pieces are often finished with an earthenware crackle glaze.
