Ian Mitchell
‘Linescapes’ are Ian’s unique delineation of the landscape based on a stripped down reality. His series of limited edition landscape prints celebrating the British Coast and Countryside pay homage to early twentieth century travel posters, and draw on the reductive style of early twentieth century German and Swiss design. Using his original sketches and photographs, Ian refines and reduces the source material down to minimalist forms and shapes. Discarding clutter and using artistic licence as he goes.
Ian’s work to date has been routed in the British landscape tradition of natural scenery. However, he is increasingly drawn to contemporary man-made landscapes, the concrete modernism of architecture and sea defences that symbolise the British seaside resort.
