David A P Thomas

Part of the New Light Prize Exhibition 2020

David AP Thomas was born in 1953 and grew up in Gloucestershire and Kenya. He worked as a gardener, a labourer and plumber before attending art schools in Cheltenham, Cardiff, and Leeds. He moved to Yorkshire in 1989, where he has lived and worked as a painter alongside his wife, ceramicist Anna Lambert. He has exhibited widely, most recently at Twenty-Twenty Gallery in Ludlow and Water Street Gallery in Todmorden. He has previously been shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize.

David paints still-life as a way of exploring spatial and formal qualities. His paintings are a record of the slow, incremental nature of looking. They are both reflective and connective.
