An introduction into the traditional technique of woodblock engraving, developed by Thomas Bewick towards the end of the 18th Century.
During this one-day workshop, you will produce a black and white wood engraving having learnt all stages of the process: transferring your initial drawing onto your woodblock, learning and practising how to use the different engraving tools to create texture and line, and finally making prints from your woodblock. You’ll be shown examples of traditional and contemporary wood engravings to help you form ideas.
You’re encouraged to bring small sketches or images with line drawing and textured marks. You will be using wood blocks of varied irregular shapes approx. 3 x 6 cm or 8 x 5 cm.
Suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills. Age 18+.
