Stitched Collage Portraits Workshop with Ailish Henderson
Date: Saturday 4 June
Time: 11 - 1pm
Location: The Biscuit Factory Gallery
Hosted by: Ailish Henderson
Create a portrait made from fabric and paper collage using various techniques including sketching, portraiture, collage, painting and hand stitch. All materials are included as well as free tea, coffee and a sweet treat from The Factory Kitchen.
Ailish is an artist, researcher and teacher. Her career started in painting, quickly she began incorporating textiles and has studied both subjects formally for the last 13 years.
Ailish's current practice is cemented upon researching the connection between emotional repair and making. Evidence-based investigations show that across a range of creative disciplines, a form of restoration can be achieved for the creator brought about via the act of making rather than the outcome itself.
Her largest works are humanised sculptures which emphatically portray a personal narrative of amelioration and betterment. Recent investigative work by Ailish is based predominantly in textiles, creating bridging outcomes to connect familiar fabrics with substances not generally associated with the medium such as jesmonite.
Currently the Editor-in-Chief for Mr X Stitch, Ailish has written for a number of art-related publications and offers lectures and tutoring within textiles, print and mixed media fields. She also sells her own range of printed textiles through Handmade in Britain and exhibits her work on invitation with 3 solo exhibitions to date, the largest of which was held in London in 2019.
