About
Learn how to apply Japanese folding techniques to paper materials and create an origami lampshade.
A creative paper folding workshop which is suitable for all levels from complete beginners through to advanced paper crafters wishing to learn a new technique. This workshop is designed to build confidence and freedom when working with paper. With Caroline from Cabinet of Curiosity Studio as your guide, you'll discover how to fold paper and follow origami crease patterns.
At the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a selection of hand folded samples which reflect a range of different origami techniques, an original lampshade and folding skills that will open up the endless possibilities of origami.
All materials will be provided and there will be a half hour break midway through the session.
Workshop attendees also receive:
- a complimentary tea or filter coffee and sweet bite which can be redeemed from The Factory Kitchen cafe at a time of your choosing and comfort on the day of your workshop.
Cabinet of Curiosity Studio was founded in 2010 by costume and theatre designer Caroline Collinge and architect Edmond Salter. The studio brings expertise in the paper arts and crafts to make installations, exhibitions, costumes and illustrations for commission. Their work has been shown across the UK and internationally in a variety of settings that include museums, theatres, libraries, heritage sites, outdoor venues, arts venues and public spaces. Art and design workshops have been delivered with British Council, V&A Museum of Childhood, Guildford Cathedral, University of Leeds, Historic Dockyard Chatham, National Trust and Rochester Art Gallery among others.

Payment is required upon booking. Cancellations made up to 2 weeks prior to the workshop date are eligible for a full refund.
Participants are encouraged to arrive around 10-15 minutes ahead of their workshop.
There is parking on site and we have 2 free overflow carparks on Bermondsey Street and opposite at The Holy Biscuit.

Please note that we have policies in place to keep staff, workshop providers and workshop attendees safe. We continually monitor current government guidance for updates with regards to Covid-19 and ensure our workshops comply with that guidance, our policy can be viewed here.
It is expected that participants follow all relevant and current legislation relating to household and support bubble mixing. We are able to run our workshops as they are creative educational sessions and there is no household mixing within the class.
