About

Come and visit the Walled Garden, spend a few hours sharing their knowledge and approach to wildlife friendly growing, then pick a big bucket of your own choice of fresh flowers. They’ll show you how to prepare and condition the flowers, before transforming them into a luxurious bouquet to take home.

About Verde Flowers

Caroline Beck has been growing flowers since she was a child, working both as a professional gardener and a garden writer for over twenty years, regularly publishing in magazines such as Gardens Illustrated, House & Garden, & the Royal Horticultural Society magazine, The Garden. She established the Verde Flower Co in 2015, joining a increasing number of small independent growers across the country concerned about the poor environmental standards of imported flowers, which make up over 80% of the £3 billion worth of flowers sold in the UK.

Roisin Taylor, Caroline’s daughter, divides her time between growing flowers in the walled garden and working as a Climate Change policy officer for the wildlife charity, the RSPB. She grew up working alongside Caroline on their allotment, and has been involved in the business since she left university, and recently has been exploring ways of incorporating her other passion, textiles, which has seen her experimenting with natural dyeing from flowers and foliage. The flowers they grow together have less than 5% of the carbon footprint of imported flowers, have zero waste as any left over go into compost for next year’s blooms, and are grown without chemicals, with wildlife firmly at their heart.
