Wire Sculpture Workshop
Sunday 17 February
Time: 10 am - 1 pm
Location: The Biscuit Factory Gallery
Hosted by: Zoe Robinson
In this workshop participants will create a sculptural flying bird or birds on a wooden base. You will learn how to work with wire and receive one to one individual tuition throughout the day. You will learn a variety of different techniques and examine shape, form and balance.
All materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring along an image of your chosen bird, preferably with views from the front, back and sides. Sketches or photographs of details such as beaks, feet or head profiles will also be useful. A printer will be available on-site if you are unable to print from home.
Zoe Robinson is a sculptor based in the North East who has taught drawing and sculpture for the past ten years. Zoe studied an MA in Fine Art at Northumbria University in 1999 and her distinct style has developed over the years.
Zoe’s current work is animal studies in wire and mixed media. Birds with their fleeting presence pronounce themselves with song and glimmer, they endure throughout all seasons. Their shapes are vague, shadowy, uncertain and unclear and it is this moment Zoe tries to depict them by drawing with wire in air.
Zoe explains: “To see animals in their natural environment is an engaging experience, however brief. Our glimpses of them are often transient and intangible and their retreat so definite. I marvel at their private lives.’’
