A six week course to introduce you to the thrills of Free Motion Embroidery. In this course you will learn how to adapt a domestic sewing machine so that you can do free motion embroidery. You will learn how to balance stitch speed with hand control in order to stitch smoothly in all directions. You will create a sample book full of your experiments with FME, including appliqué, lettering, drawing, using soluble and bonded fabrics, and creating texture with top and bottom threads. You will gain confidence in using your sewing machine for Free Motion Embroidery and in developing textile art ideas.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and those with some sewing
All materials will be supplied by your tutor. It would be helpful if you could bring a pair of large fabric scissors. Participants may wish to bring their own sewing machine - this is possible but the machine must be PAT tested.
Donna Cheshire is a textile artist investigating the power that the natural landscape has to ground, nurture and strengthen us. Working with appliqué, hand dyed & machine stitched fabric, embellished with hand stitches Donna produces textile art with an expressive, painterly feel. She studied textile design to Masters level and continues to develop her work through sketchbook explorations and sampling.
As a qualified teacher, Donna worked for many years teaching Art & Design to post 16 students. She now combines her own practice with work as a freelance tutor.
Having grown up ‘down South’ Donna has moved progressively Northwards. The landscape and coastline of the North East and Scotland have become pivotal to her practice.
