Anthony Downie is a North Shields-based painter and set builder, who began his career running community mural projects and creating album art, before moving to set design. He currently produces scenic work for theatre and events including at Northern Stage and Live Theatre, alongside his own art.
His striking acrylic paintings transform familiar local scenes through his signature interplay of elongated shadows and amber sunlight, reflecting the simple and authentic beauty he finds in his industrial surroundings.
