Meet Lauren, founder of Sunday Girl Floral, a modern florist with a feminine flair based in Newcastle. Lauren designs arrangements for weddings and events, as well as her weekly bouquets that are inspired by women she admires. You can also find Lauren hosting floristry workshops and excitedly we've partnered with Lauren so you can celebrate a special occasion with a workshop here at The Biscuit Factory.
Tell us a little about you
Hi! I’m Lauren, I’m a florist based in Jesmond, Newcastle. I used to live in Brighton for many years before moving back to the North East with my husband and two cats. I love art, music, nature, traveling, and generally all these things help inspire me everyday in my work. I have always been a creative person so when I'm not flowering I have many other crafty outlets to keep me busy.
Tell us a little about your career
I got into the floristry industry after working in marketing and social media for a few years. I'd always been interested in floristry ever since doing my own wedding flowers in 2018 so when I was let go from my job due to lockdown, I was able to think about what I really wanted to do.
Once lockdown started easing off I decided to go back to college to train to be a florist and I’ve never looked back. I started out working in florist shops to try and learn the business side while working and in late 2023 I decided to venture out on my own and start Sunday Girl Floral.
Sunday Girl Floral is a modern and bold take on floristry, I’d like to think I’m offering something new and unusual to an industry that sometimes can be very traditional. Women are my main inspiration, with many of my bouquets being inspired by different women. I think this unique aspect pushes me to be creative and I always try to create something fun and sculptural.
What can couples expect when working with you?
Couples can expect personal bespoke flowers from me. Each of my weddings I put a lot of effort into really tailoring the florals to each couple and making them unique for them. My personal style is very bright and bold but I also love working with couples who like more minimal neutral vibes. I love getting to know my couples and like them to know they can come to me with any crazy ideas, the crazier the better!
What do you love most about weddings?
I love being part of someone's love story and flowers are such a huge part of the day. They really showcase a couple's personal style and taste. Flowers set the tone for the day and are usually the main decor so to be trusted with that is amazing and is why I put so much effort into creating the florals of their dreams.
I also love that in 50, 60 years time my flowers will still be part of those photographs that grandchildren and great grandchildren look at when looking back on those wedding days.
What are your top tips for couples planning their wedding?
My biggest tip would be to go with what YOU want. Don't listen to any outside noise as there are so many opinions from friends and family, so it's best to go with the vibe and suppliers that you love.
Another tip would be once you've found a supplier you love, don't hang around on booking with them as people's diaries fill up so quickly. People are definitely getting more and more organized with wedding planning with some couples enquiring for 2027 already!
How can couples work with you?
The best way to start working with me would be to fill out the enquiry form through my website. This will allow me to let couples know of my availability and from there I will book in a free consultation. This gives us the chance to go through your dream floral ideas and talk about budget. From securing your date with me I create bespoke proposals for each of my couples so that they can see their vision before the big day.
My diary for 2025/2026 is open and filling up so if any couples would like to work with me then please do get in touch.
