Philip Poulston
Hailing from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, until recently Philip worked as a graphic designer in the commercial sector. After almost 30 years he has now returned to painting.
Philip's work is inspired by the landscape that exists at the edge of the urban - the hinterland between the town and the rural, not quite a built up area, not quite the countryside - gardens, lanes, houses, people, old factories, etc.
Of his paintings Philip says "Sometimes I think I'm aiming for surrealism, but it's probably more about incongruity - disparate elements, everyday things woven together. It's not about the separate elements in the picture as an ends in themselves, it's about the bigger picture - the tapestry."
