Moy Mackay was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1966. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1990 with a BA (Hons) degree in Design. Since then, she has lived and worked in the Scottish Borders.
Moy's richly coloured works combine traditional felting techniques in a painterly way using merino tops. This organic medium gives her work extraordinary warmth and texture, and calls for a fine balance between spontaneity and control. The finished work always carries an element of surprise. Her passion is for colour and Moy's work asserts this with luminous vitality.
The main inspiration for Moy's work is her surroundings in the rural heart of the beautiful Tweed Valley. Over the past few years, Moy has exhibited widely in solo exhibitions at prestigious venues throughout Scotland, as well as in London and the US.
