Diane Griffin uses a combination of techniques to create unique ceramics. Her Pod Vases are slip cast with white earthenware clay, individual scrolls are applied creating a decorative focus. The vases are then fired three to four times, reaching a top temperature of 1120 degrees.
The paper-like scrolls in Diane's work were inspired by a trip to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem: 'Here I was enchanted by the thousands of wishes and prayers written on paper and crammed between the stones in the wall. I was inspired by the collective focus for so many people’s hopes at this ancient site and their interaction with it, much like the Love Letters Wall at Casa de Giuletta in Verona and the Love Locks Bridge in Paris.'
