Originally from Western Australia, Mark Sofilas is a painter based in Leeds. After a 20-year career as an illustrator in the advertising industry, he moved to the UK in 2008 and began working as a full-time fine artist. He is known for his expressive oil paintings of the Yorkshire landscape and vibrant European cityscapes. A self-taught artist, his work is guided by emotion, memory and imagination as much as observation. Through exaggerated colour, subtle shifts in perspective and simplified forms, he seeks to capture both the appearance of a place and the feeling it’s atmosphere evokes. His work is exhibited across the UK and he is a member of Leeds Fine Artists.
