Angelo Murphy is an award-winning contemporary painter specialising in still life. His work explores the quiet drama of everyday objects, drawing on close observation and the controlled use of light and shadow. Influenced by the chiaroscuro techniques of the Baroque period, his paintings combine luminous highlights and deep shadows to create theatrical yet intimate compositions rooted in the present. Angelo has received several awards, including winning the Jackson’s Painting Prize category in 2022 and the Nottingham Lakeside Arts Open in 2018, and has been shortlisted for the Attenborough Prize. His work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe and the United States, with one painting in the permanent collection of the University of Nottingham.
