Born in 1950, Alan Stones is a painter and printmaker based in Cumbria’s Eden Valley. Since graduating from St Martin’s School of Art in 1971, he has worked full-time as an artist, producing paintings, drawings and original prints. In 1984 Alan received a Gulbenkian Foundation award to experiment in printmaking, marking the start of a prolific career in lithography, during which he has produced around 150 editions. He has exhibited widely, including UK-wide touring solo exhibitions, a residency in the Falkland Islands, and several large solo exhibitions in public galleries in Cumbria. Alan is a Patron of Printfest, the annual artist-led printmaking festival in Ulverston, Cumbria.
