Dave Barden original art

Biography

Dave Barden continues to find inspiration for his paintings and collages in the world of jazz and popular music. This includes responding directly to the experience of live performance and events such as the Gateshead International Jazz Festival at the Sage, where Dave was resident artist, or exploring imagery suggested by recorded music, especially the lyrics in popular songs.

A recent development in his work is a series of paintings based on 78 and 45rpm records, selected from his own extensive collection, which attempt to capture some of the visual and tactile qualities of their packaging, as well as conveying personal meanings and associations.

'As an artist who shares a passion for music, I am attempting to bring these two areas together in my paintings, not just through using music imagery, but by physically combining materials and objects such as sheet music, concert tickets, posters, and record covers with the painted surface.'
