The Artist: Stephen Hawkin
Having studied graphic design at Hull school of art and design, Steve became increasingly fascinated with the coast and the weathering of surfaces.
While working towards an MA in Textile design Steve continued developing this interest and began to explore the many textures and surfaces he discovered along the Northeast coast.
This passion has become ongoing and the collection of photographs exhibited here shows the abstract and painterly surfaces that are revealed by close study of old boats.
Steve’s photographs celebrate the colour, pattern and beauty of abstract details we might normally fail to notice.
In addition to being a photographer Steve also works as a graphic designer within heritage interpretation and higher education.
Steve has exhibited widely including in London, New York and Edinburgh.
